Introduction

Thrillworks is looking for an experienced General Accountant to join its finance team.  Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will help support the financial control and reporting process by maintaining the day-to-day transactional financial records of the company.

Position

  • Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts.  
  • Reconciliation of sales tax, expense reports, bank accounts, and credit card statements monthly. 
  • Processing of both accounts receivable and accounts payable, including issuing invoices, processing payments, and responding to customer and vendor inquiries. 
  • Assisting the controller in maintaining and updating the general ledger. 
  • Maintenance of all supporting documentation including filing, scanning, and ensuring all documents related to financial activities are accounted for and current.  
  • Working with staff in other departments to ensure timely and accurate information. 
  • Providing support in the detailed review of the financial results by understanding variances through investigation and follow-up. 
  • Assisting with the cash forecasting and monitoring of the company’s cash position. 
  • Assisting with the month-end close process which includes preparation and processing of journal entries including recurring entries, preparation of reporting and analytics.  
  • Providing support in the detailed review of the financial results by understanding variances through investigation and follow-up. 
  • Assisting in the development of budgets, updating and distributing cost center and project-level reporting to management. 
  • Preparing ad hoc Statistics Canada reports, government grant applications, tax returns, and assisting with internal & external audits. 
  • Identifying areas for process improvement as well as internal control deficiencies within the company and implementing process improvements. 

Required Skills

  • Diploma in accounting and/or CPA, CGA preferred  
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, familiarity working in an agency or consulting environment preferred.  
  • High attention to detail and ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced business. 
  • Customer service mindset towards both internal teams and external customers, vendors, and other stakeholders. 
  • Highly efficient and effective at communicating – both written and verbal. 
  • Experience with QuickBooks software required, preferably Online version. 
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (expert in Excel). 
  • Strong initiative, organizational, and time management skills. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
